My 96 is pissing fluid!
Got a nice 96 but it started leaking trans fluid today so like an the idiot i am i ran right to the part store for a pan gasket and filter!
Well after a quick bath in trans fluid i discovered it wasn't the pan at all but the servo cover!
Can anyone tell me if it's the cover or the piston seals that went bad in my 96 3.0 2wd?
130k clean little truck well maintained! Thx Titan

Welcome to the forum
Nice looking Ranger
Your 1996 3.0l has 4R44E automatic transmission, same as this one: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...-trans-131847/

Google: ford 4r44e transmission parts
You can try this site: A4LD transmission gaskets, Mazda transmission gaskets
Not recommending, never used them, just popped up on Google search
Just FYI, the A4LD, 4R44E, 5R44E are the same transmissions, so share many common parts, 4R had more solenoids than A4LD
55E instead of 44E means it was for a 4.0l V6, but still the same basic transmission

Update on my 96 i dropped the exhaust today cut my self about 12 inch piece of wood wedged it between the wheel well and the servo cap just enough to release the pressure on the snap ring and it came right out!
Well after getting the servo out to inspect which there wasn't nothing but the piston spring and cap i noticed the o-ring on the cap had several splits in it and was very hard and truck only has 130k on it!
So off to ford i went!
Well all you ranger fans out there know when it comes to your truck and the Ford Dealership you might as well go to the local zoo and ask the chimps for help you will get way better costumer service for sure!
Mean while back at the Ford Dealership aka no brains department!
I took the servo cap and piston and spring with me because they said they had the parts i needed!
So i get there maybe expecting a new spring new o-ring at least!
But as we all know that's not going to happen at the dealership all they had was a $3.35 o-ring for the cap =\
I did this job without dropping the trans all i did was drop the exhaust and the local transmission shop wanted $850 for this fix!
So to all my fellow rangers get off the couch and go get dirty hell you might save yourself a grand or 2 =)
Job took only about an hour to replace new o-ring and reinstall servo without the high cost of labor!
