gear help? 3.90 or 4.10 with 33s?
Well i had a 3 inch body lift put on my 98 4x2 so i could clear 31s and it looked great. well it started to look like the front end would look better if it was up about an inch. so one day i randomly decide that i want a spacer for the front to make it level. come to find out the summit doesent carry a coil spring spacer for a 98. only 97 and down! well we measured my coil springs and they were just as big as the f150 coil spring. so i bought spacers for a f150. after 4 hours of work we finally put it on and my truck was more unlevel than before!!!!! it looked like it was bout to do a wheelie! a buddy of mine just happend to have some 2 inch blocks so we put them in the rear and it worked perfect. now i can clear a 33 12.50 on a 10 inch wheel! (just though i would share how i accedentally had mt truck lifted higher)
but now my question is what gear would be best for the 33s? my truck is a 4.0 4x2 automatic. i was thinkin the 3.90 would be good, i was wantin 4.10 but goin down the interstate at about 65 im right around 2 1/2 grand i just been wonderin if 4.10 would cause me to wind to many rpm and suck out all my gas!. so help me out. what do you guys think?

your probably not even in over drive because of how big the tires are. I'd say 4.10's with 33's and you should be fine but 4.30's would be better. I have a 3.0L 5 speed 4x4, I have 4.10's and 31's and its perfect for that. I'd go with 4.56's and 31's if I could but I do need to drive on the highway for 3 hours and don't need to get that bad of gas mileage. Around town I'm sure it would be a blast.

it looks good with the 31 10.50 bighorns right now and still looked good before but now that im goin to the 33 12.50 its gonna be a great difference. 4.10 sounds good but what kind of rpms im i gonna have a about 60 or 70 mph? oh and my stock gears are 3.55. not bad but not what i wish i was.

you sure? 4.56 seems a little too high. im thinkin about 4.10 or 4.30 now that i looked a the ranger stations chart on tires and gears. what kind of gas milage should i get with the different gears? im gettin about 15 around town right now. what can keep it close to that? or better?

4.56's
I don't mean to disagree with everyone but I am currently running 33" Procomp Extreme Mud Terrain's with 4.10's on my 2007 SOHC 4.0 Automatic. I find myself wanting MORE GEAR! On the highway, I generally set my cruise control to 9 mph over the speed limit - in MA it's mostly 65 so I am usually running 74 mph. I can't remember what I'm running for rpm but the truck runs beautiful and my highway mileage averages around 16-17 (that's with an Eaton M90 supercharger too). From a dead stop on pavement, it definitely needs more gear - even with the SC, I can't spin the 33" muds, but once rolling, the horsepower shines. The next blob of extra money I get will probably buy 4.56's at both ends or maybe even 4.88's. Mine definitely needs MORE gear!
