need help with wheel bearings/axle shaft
OK, first of all this is for my 1980 Toyota project truck.
I am trying to change out the wheel bearings and seals. I have pulled out the axle shaft, removed the snap ring.... but that is as far as I have gotten. I can't seem to get past the old retainer and bearing. won't budge. Following the Chilton manual, it should just come out What should I do? |

What should I do? Ummm ...Post your question in a Toyota forum ? |
Wow, thanks for bringing absolutely nothing to the table.
|
you might have to get a slide hammer to get the bearings out...i would assume they are somewhat of a press fit...
|
is there any way you can get them with a bearing puller?
|
I will look into a slide hammer and bearing puller
thanks |
any bearing puller that I know of won't fit around the axle shaft
This thing is kicking my butt |
If it's anything like the D44 shafts on Jeeps, you have to crack the old retainer off. You drill into it, but careful not to go through to the shaft. After you have the hole, take a cold chisel and crack it in half. Bearing comes off after that.

I finally got it.
I used an angle grinder to cut off the retainer, then banged the S*** out of it until it finally popped loose. now just waiting for the new bearings and seals to be delivered, got a lock rite locker to complete the rear axle |
I can pull my rear wheel in & out HELP
