Converting a D44 to 8 lug possible?
I am wondering if I can convert my D44 to 8lug.
Reason being is Instead of running a 9" rear I will probably run a D60 FF that came off some Suburban that my buddy has. He is going to get rid of it cheap. Only problem is its 8 lug and my D44 is 5on5.5
I want the front and the rear to have the same lug pattern, what are my options?

You should... 'should' be able to buy the replacement hubs for the '79 F250 w/D44 that Maurice mentioned above and bolt those onto your axle.
A friend of mine did that exact thing with his. He has a 44 from a FSC on his yota and it came as a five lug. To swap to 6 lug all he did was swap the bearings/hub on the knuckle, it was pretty cheap too. So that may be something to look into...

do you know how much they would want for the 8lug knuckles out? or if they even have them? i would be willing to drive down and get it.

you know i looked them both up. the 5 lug hug and rotor is 11.7" in diameter and the 8lug is 12.5" in diameter.
i am really not sure if that is too much of a difference or what? also the hub is a different length. so i would assume different outer shafts as well?

the shafts are the same....the only difference in the axles is the outter parts (brakes, hubs, etc)

only thing you might have to worry about is the hub diameter difference....i know the older Ford 3/4 ton hub diameter is bigger than the Dodges (my brother bought Ford aftermarket wheels for his Dodge once) but the Dodge hub diameter is too small for a Ford...
