Need Trans Pics
Hey all,
I'm looking for pictures of the pressure test plug on the transmission. I want to install a temp sensor since I tow quit a bit with my truck and like to "know before I go". I've done a search but the threads are so old the pics are mostly just red X's now.
Anything I should know before hand? Which sensor, hidden screws in the driverside A-pillar? I don't do anything extreme with my truck so I don't need an exact gauge, just a ball park I can keep an eye on, so probably just a dial gauge, something cheap. What is the normal operating temp range? Any easily accessible/removable plugs in the firewall to run wires?
I have an 04 auto 4x4.

I am unsure what your trans look like...But there should be a port plug on one side that you can un bolt and if a little fluid come out than your good to go. I would just go with an Autometer or supra gauge(they come with sensors) from the local parts store if you don't want anything particular on there($40-60).....and I would go with an F150 pod($29) for your column to avoid drilling any holes on your pillar. That way it could be removed later on and leave no holes. There should be a grommet on the firewall above the brake pedal you could use..I had and empty one. My trans temp stays around 180 degrees but I also have a trans cooler installed.
Thanks for the help guys. I went with a B&M guage, it was cheaper and the Autometer one didn't come with the sensor/sending unit. Really an easy install with the help of you guys, took about 20 minutes. Looks like under normal driving conditions I run about 160.
