open diff to LS
Can you buy parts to make an open diff a limited slip diff, or do you have to swap out the rear ends? I don't want to get a locker since It's a daily driver and doesn't see much off road action.

Yup:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-4204-F288/ $200 for a brand new L/S.....i would check out how much someone would charge you to install it though (if you can't yourself) you might find the cheaper route to be finding a L/S rear end in a salvage yard. |
you'll also need new carrier bearings from ford and have them pressed onto the carrier as well as new races/shims. Would also be a good idea to replace the outer axle seals. I also bought new bolts for the ring gear, they come all together in 1 single bag.
You can find one at a junkyard but if it has around 80k or more, its very possible that the clutches have worn out and will need to be rebuilt. |
