overdrive fuse keeps blowing

i have a 2000 4l v6 a/t with 100k miles, after i start my truck and move the gear shift from part it blows the fuse #6 in the in cab fuse compartment, #6 fuse controls (overdrive, back-up lamps, DRL, 4x4) now the only things that stop working once this fuse blows is the ability to take it out or put it into overdrive, depending on if i turn overdrive on or off before i take it out of PARK, also the back-up lamps do not work, but the DRL and 4x4 works fine. any info would help or maybe even what type of shop to take it to.

Check the two wires that go out to the O/D Cancel on the shifter stalk. At higher miles, a wire may chafe and/or break on the top of the steering column where they make a right angle bend coming out of the hollow shifter. This can cause a momentary short to ground when moving the lever. Access for inspection by removing the upper column trim.
