Rear disc ?

Would these work on a 28 spline 8.8 or only the 31 spline version?

Looks like it will fit the 28 spline 8.8 or a 7.5, but not the 31 spline.

I remember seeing someone running cadillac calipers before.

Its probably more cost effective anyway just to get an explorer axle.

that was Bob, it can be done but idk about those plates.

You can run Chevy 3/4 ton calipers too, they make brackets to weld to the axle tube and then just buy another set of front ford ranger rotors. with a nice set of stainless lines you should be good to go.

If i would do this i am afraid that i could just get a better axle and build it up the way i would like to for a little more $.

Can you point me to those chevy brackets you speak of?

The brackets are available to put cobra brakes on a ranger. I looked for it on RPS and the link dissappeared. They were $200 for the brackets. Total cost was around $600 with all new parts but it was a "big brake" kit.

The company running this auction makes adapters for both the 28-spline and 31-spline apps. The bolt pattern in this particular auction is for 28-spline and they will bolt on a 28-spline Ranger axle.

Notice that this auction is for the adapter brackets only. You'd also need the hard-to-find Eldorado calipers ($150~300 pr), Lincoln/Mustang SVO rotors ($50~100/pr?), brake hoses ($40~80?) and e-brake cable adapters. The hole in the center of the Lincoln rotors is a little too small for late Ranger axle flanges and would need to be opened up slightly.

So am i correct when i say its probably better to find an explorer axle?

I knew it was for the brackets only, i always double check the fine print, but appreciate you pointing that out.

The Explorer axle is another possibility but it is not a bolt on. It needs flipped perches and shock brackets welded on with attention paid to the final pinion angle. It is also about 1 1/2" wider than a late Ranger axle so it could possibly cause more fender interference with large tires.

Whatever happened to your full width axle idea? I'm coming down there in two weeks so be ready to go to the junkyard and grab a exploder axle. Time to man up and actually start workin on that rig.

Harry's U Pull It in Hazleton PA and EZ Pull in New Ringgold PA have them for 100 bucks disc to disc. Everything they carry including motors is less than 100 bucks. Man i miss livin there. I think you would be better off with the exploder axle. 28 spline verse 31 spline. Its stronger overall.
