Ok like the title says. I need help with my brakes. Back in June I had my rear passenger side brakes worked on. The problem all started when I noticed a loss in brake pressure and ended up having a faulty brake wheel cylinder ( I believe that is the name it looks like this ) We also changed the parts and such.


Well we only replaced that one side and im sure both sides are original or they were put on together at the same time. The guy said there is a good chance the other side will go. Now it is December and im having the problem again. Braking feels a little odd like it kinda locks up a little. Right now I am about 1/4 below the fill line in my reservoir. My question now is the best way to see if this is leaking is to take the rear wheel off? I remember the guy who did my brakes showed me how and I went under my truck but did not notice anything.

I had the same problem, one wheel cylinder blew out and I replaced it but then it worked far better than the other side so I ended up replacing both and when I hit the brakes suddenly, the rear tires would lock up until the abs kicked in. What I had to do was manually adjust the rear drums. All works fine now. Not sure about your leaking though, I would just take the drum off anway to see and clean it.

 

Take your rear wheel off, take off the drum and peel back one of the rubber boots on the cylinder and take a peek.

 

Replace the other cylinder. These are infamous for seizing up on Rangers.....in fact the entire drum assembly is crap. I've had a shoe grenade and destroy everything in there, and have had cylinders seize up and just f*ck everything up. The parking break assembly also like to stick when wet.

Just things to watch for on our Rangers.......and replace when necessary.
