2000 4.0 auto no reverse
#3
To use a 4wd trans you will need to tear the trans down completely and swap output shafts.
My 99 lost reverse. I also had no engine braking in first. Which points to a broken one way sprag clutch. I drove about 10k with no reverse, it takes a bit of planning when it comes to parking.
Another possibility is a problem with the low reverse servo. Typically a gasket failure.
I got a trans off eelbay which was a POS with a crap warranty. If you get a trans to swap in make sure it has a good warranty.

Well the 4.0 sohc has a slightly different bellhousing on it. Its in the 01+ rangers.
Some have made the trans fit. I beleive they remove the alingment dowls to get it to work.
IMHO, look for a 98-00 trans. I got mine off eelbay for 550, but it has pressure issues. I would steer clear of all auctions not offered by a company in the trans biz. Warranty here is king. I got about a year on this trans i have real doubts about it lasting.
