Pinion shaft bearing... Please help
 

I have a vibrating that gets worse when i step on the gas and with speed. I'm wondering if it could be the pinion shaft baring,.
In my other post i was told that i should have had the baring changed when they did the seal, now I'm wondering if I should waste the extra money on getting the baring done or just get a junk yard diff and be done with it
I was talking to the ford tech guy and he said the baring wouldnt be making it shake, what do you think?

Tires or driveshaft.

Balance your tires, if its still there check the drive shaft.

If the drive shaft has been off already its possible the shaft is installed incorrectly.

So you dont think changing the baring would help?
how would I check the driveshaft, I had the U-joints and the pinion seal changed a week ago and the problem seems to be getting worse with time

When bearings go bad the tend grind and howl first.

Vibrations that get worse with speed is a balance issue 9 out of 10 times.

To test the drive shaft it would need to be check by a shop specialized in balancing them.


Was this issue there before the u joints and seals?

Its always been an issue... I'll get the tires balanced today to see if that helps

Does your truck have a 2 piece drive shaft? If you do check the carrier bearing where the two shafts meet. To change the pinion bearing you have to disassemble the whole differential.

I had the same problem with mine and it ended up being the rear u-joint on the driveshaft. To check it u-joints, wiggle them every which way. There should be NO play in the joints (you may have some rotational play due to some slop in your rear and gears though). Find any play and replace those things. When mine went out they made progressively more and more noise and vibrations, but it was intermittent at times.

BTW, U-joints are pretty easy to replace yourself. Mine cost $7 a piece and took me a couple of hours to replace.
