Planning for a 2004 fx4 manual swap PLEASE HELP
Hello Everyone.
I drive a 2004 4.0 4wd supercab xlt fx4 stepside in grey. The truck just passed 90k miles and runs like a top. I have said from the day I bought it in December 2016 that the only thing it is missing is being a 5spd. Recently I came across TrePaul's auto to manual swap and have been inspired.
Here is what I'm aiming to do:
swap my automatic transmission for a 5spd
while I am under the truck and have the interior torn apart, I would also like to make my transfer case manual shift as well
I want to make my truck a proper 2 stick fx4, or as close as I can reasonably come.
Now for my questions.
Can someone help me compile a list of all needed parts to carry out this swap. so far I think I'll need :
1) manual transmission (planning on new clutch kit while apart
2) manual column
3) manual pedal set
4) Master and Slave cyl ( I have read its best to replace slave with a new one while everything is apart and accessible)
5) manual transmission harness and computer or have my computer set up for manual
6) interior trim for shifter ( boots and what not)
7) stick for transfer case
Anyone see something I'm missing?
Ideally I would like to find a donor 4.0 5spd to use of the same year.
If that does not pan out, will I run into any issues sourcing from multiple trucks or online if I have to.
I understand the older rangers are easier to perform this swap on due to the lack of computers to the degree they are present on newer rangers. What should I realistically expect on the 2004.
Thanks for all the help.
