Powertrax No-slip for front on an 02?
Just curious if the Powertrax listed for the Dana 35 will work in the Ranger front. I know the Lockright for the Ranger and Dakota share the same part number, and they list the No-Slip for the Dakota. Does that mean it will also fit the Ranger?

Not sure, but I don't think so. I have one up front, and have had it for going on 5 years.

i think the difference is live axles vs locking hubs... but i don't remember what year ford put live axles in...

yes, you are right, but no manufacture of lockers recommend putting a locker in a live front axle, due to streetability issues...
so while the kit mentioned by the OP, will work, it is a bad idea, if you have live axles... |
Its not a bad idea. I ran the aussie locker in the front of mine and daily drove the truck. If the truck isn't in 4x4 then the locker won't be locked and you can't even tell its there, its not a spool.

The lockers are 100% transparent in the front axle when 4x4 is not engaged, even with a live axle setup. I ran an aussie in the front of my sport trac as well. |
so then why do all the manufactures say they do not recommend putting a locker or limited slip in the front, in live axle setups?
|
to answer the OPs question I am 90% sure that the no-slip will not fit the D35s in rangers.
|
i think there is one for it.....i was looking at it on summit racing i believe...

Hmm, I would call and ask someone who knows for sure before ordering. Those say that they fit solid D35s and I am pretty sure that there is enough difference between the two to not make it fit, but i may be wrong.
|
The summit links posted above are for a REAR d35, there is no solid axle front D35. No need to call anyone and get incorrect info. 92-0435-2702 is the correct part number.
|
Yeah, that looks right to me, guess they do make one.

No-Slip part # 92-0435-2702 will fit 98-current Rangers and 95-01 Explorers. They still work in snow and ice up front, but it can be hairy. I wouldn't run an autolocker in front again for a daily driver that drives in the snow a lot on the road. With front and rear automatic lockers, it really likes to go straight when you are in 4x4 on the throttle. |

Thanks for the help and the part numbers! Now it's down to deciding whether or not to run one in my daily driver that goes through a good amount of snow in the winter.

RazorsEDGE is right. I have asked Richmond gear about the live axle issue and their response was that it will work but that they will not reccommend it for liability reasons. They can't garuntee that it will not lock in 2WD.
For the IFS Dana 35, Richmond gear still makes the Lock-Right, but the No-Slip has been discontinued. The only way to get it is to get it used. |
what's the difference between the lock right and the no slip?
|
The lock-right is really clunky and the no-slip has a super smooth operation.
