PowerTrax Owners
i'm seriously torn on what to get for my truck. I am considering the PowerTrax No-Slip.
I'd like to get some info from you guys/gals who have these or have had these installed on your truck. I'd like to know what you think about your overall performance versus stock performance. My truck is an 02 XLT 4x4 and I play offroad with it usually 3-4 times a month, but it is also my daily driver. I live in a city of about 650,000 people so i deal with heavy traffic daily. If there is any other information i need to add please let me know... thanks in advance for your input!!! |
buy it, you wont regret it at all.. i have the no-slip in the rear and a lockright up front.. the no-slip acts just like a L/S would but its a locker that is locked at all times when power is applied. my ranger is a DD as well, and i go playing often. i have also had the no-slip for over a year with no probs
|
you say it's locked at all times when power is applied, what about when you are turning???
|
also with a locker, its a good idea to get traction bars to help out with the axel hop (rear)
|
when your coasting it acts just like an open rear end.. but the no-slip is 99.9% of the time quiet.. hence why i refer to it being like a L/S just fully locked when power is applied. if you need a better explanation just ask ill be more then happy to help you understand
|
Do the rear wheels churp around coners? Im not talking about powersliding a turn, just putting normal accleration.
|
does it release traction like a limited slip? (i.e. when you are in a turn, does it allow your outer wheel?
|
If you are not on the gas, the diff will unlock. It's only when the input is turning faster than the output (pinion input, wheels output) that it is locked. If the tires are turning faster than the input (turning, outside wheel will turn faster than inside) it will unlock allowing differentiation b/t the 2 axle shafts.

whichever is the cheaper powertrax locker, the ez one I guess, don't get that. A guy in our offroad group had one and it made his truck suck on the street. He got to use it at spring creek maybe twice and then had to take it out. I remember somebody on here had one that started to go bad and nearly took out the whole diff with it. but I think the noslip version is the good one! :biggthump

I have the No-Slip and funny enough I was saying this morning how this thing rocks.
Well, I've known it's good b/c I've it on for 30k+ miles...oh and I live in NJ...the most densely populated state in country ;) I know a thing or two about traffic haha But for DD, you LEARN and ADAPT...just like any other modification (lift, sway bar, etc). It'll chirp and drag if you floor it making a tight turn. But most of the time you don't realize (on the road) that's it there. Offroad....you KNOW it's there Anyway, here's the story from this morning. Someone left a perfectly good parking spot open b/c half of it was covered with about 10" of snow. I backed right into it...up it i should say. The suspension was flexed pretty good and I didnt want to leave it that way all day so I pulled out and parked somewhere else. But it was fun and possible b/c of the locker. Had I had an open RWD, I'd probably still be spinning the one tire. Get the No-Slip...you won't be disappointed Oh and the lesser of the two Powertrax is the Lock-Rite. The "ez-locker" is a Detroit locker model. |
No-Slip is where my money will be...

How much does it cost to get one installed? Cause I have noe Idea how and don't know anyone that does. |
how did the install go? Is it easy as they say and are the instructions good? Ive never taken a rear apart before
|
Install was fairly simple. I spent most of it watching John but after the realized it really was a DIY install. We only missed one part of the instructions I think which caused a hiccup, but went back over it a few times and realized where we went awry.
To get pricing find an offroad shop in your area. Make sure they realize it's a Powertrax unit and doesnt require them to set the pinion angles and gears and what not. It should be a lot cheaper than a typical locker install. |
Just weld up the rear!
|
so, I am in the same boat (kinda-I have 2WD), but I am wondering...are you suggesting the Powertrax "Traction Systems" or the Powertrax Lock-Right? thanks guys!

As for the manual, it was not that bad. I also don't drive a truck like a moron, so if you are easy on it you'll hardly even notice it on the street. I think I got mine from Summit. I have yet to find better shipping, customer service than them. They also price match. |
geeeeez....sorry dude
