Axle Swap on a 2wd

Axle Swap on a 2wd
Now I know very little about axle's and gear ratios and what all the difference between them is. I have a 2006 STX 2wd with the 3.slow v-6. I have a automatic transmission and a 7.5 rear axle with the 3.73 gears in it. I don't think it has Limited slip so i will say no. So heres the list of questions:
I am looking into swapping in a explorer axel with the rear disk brakes. I know i would need the axle and the parking brake lines. Is there anything I also need for this.
I am running a 4/5 drop on the Ranger right now so would i need to get different shocks for this or what?
Would changing the gears to a 3.55 change anything? Or should I just find some 3.73's with limited slip to go in the axle?
Or should I forget the disc brakes and just find a set of 3.73 gears with LS to put in my axle.
Thanks for any help possible.... Nick

be careful
I've read on some how-to's and other threads about swapping out a drum brake rear end to a disc brake design here, which is an excellent mod, however.....
You are also going to change out the brake master cylinder for a rear disc setup as well
Drum brake masters have a residual check valve in them for the wheel cylinders, 4 wheel discs masters have no such valve

the rangers abs system can do all the proportioning on its own. no need to sway anything. now before 2001 models it was different.
2001+ will not require it unless you remove your ABS module.

what they change is the proportioning valve you can add a inline proportioning valve...
3.55 would give you better MPG and better freeway RPM but less get up and go off the line.
where as like 4.10 it would be better of the line but higher freeway RPM and less mpg..

3.73s or 4.10s would be a good choice.

Anyone know if this set of gears would be able to be put in my 7.5 rear end? And how about this locker from PowerTrax? Any recommendations?

this would be your best bet. all you would do is take the ring gear from your differential and bolt it to this...
