Are you asking if the manual transmission from a 4.0L SOHC will bolt to a 4.0L OHV?

Ok, cool. I know that the 2.3 and 3.0 transmissions won't interchange with the SOHC, but for some reason I thought the 4.0 OHV transmission wouldn't either...oh well...I guess I imagined it.

Ford started using the 5R55E tranny in '95 hit and miss....then in '97 the 5R55E was a standard with the 4.0 and 4x4...........that is the same tranny they use today as an automatic...

...and even though they have used the same manual transmission for a looooong time, they are not always compatible between the different engines.

yup thats what i wanted to know.

I ask because I know somebody that had a 2.9 EFI(I think) and went to the 4.0L OHV but never changed the transmission and I guess whatever they had couldn't handle the 4.0L OHV and now they need a transmission.
