Question about Manual T-Case

I have a 4x4 manual transmission that i just got out of a 2002 with a 3.0 engine. I bought an adapter part made by Trepaul86 and Fx4wannabe01 so I will be able to hook up the linkage for a manual tranfer case.

My question is which part number manual transfer case will hook up to a 3.0 tranny and what kind of vehicles is this typically found in so that i can look for one in the local junk yards?

Thanks and if anyone has one that will work for sale with the linkage please send me a PM

I would say the linkage was the hardest part to find. Shane happened to get one for me. As far as the transfer case goes, it's easier to find older Explorer and Ranger 4.0 manual transfer cases. Mine came out of a 92 Explorer I believe. It was close to that year though. You'll want to look for a Borg-Warner 1354 and make sure you don't get a 1350, it'll work but it's not nearly as strong. If you go the route of an older manual tcase, you'll want a 95-97 Explorer front driveshaft to go along with it. It has a normal ujoint on the transfer case side instead of the tulip style found on newer Rangers and Explorers.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Just a small correction. The Explorer shaft you'll want is 95-96. In 97 they used the tulip style shaft.

You'll be able to spot the difference in the 1350 and 1354 by the front output flange. The 1354 uses a u-joint flange while the 1350 typically uses a slip joint.

Oh! I guess I wasn't aware it was just those two years. Thanks for the correction!

And same thing for the tcases, I thought 1350's had u-joint flanges on some vehicles. I stand corrected. Thanks Ryan.

You are right about the t-case flanges. Some 1350s did use a u-joint flange but they are very rare. I figure it would be highly unlikely that he would run across one.

Well me and clayton (cchsbuzz19) spent all morning tearing up an old b2 and got the transfer case out, it had the u joint flange so i figured it was a 1354, but once the tranny was seperated we saw the 1350. I went ahead and bought it anyway since it was $120. Im going to take it out to my barn and see if it lines up alright with the tranny i have if not they have a return policy.

Check the rest of the housing. I had the same issue. It said 1350 in one spot, but 1354 in another. After further research, it was a 1354.

Case wise, they are the same and will work the same. The 1350 is just not built as strong as a 1354. For regular use, even if it is a 1350, you'll be fine.

Yeah i just took a look at it, it says 13-50 in a couple places so thats what it is, but it will at least get me through this winter before i start looking for a 1354.....everything lined up perfectly so im starting to get pumped about putting it in.
