3.55's to 3.73's or 4.10's

I drive my truck in the city about 95% of the time and the 3.55's are killing me. It will tach about 2250 at 70mph in 5th. I am thinking of swapping gears for something more city friendly for more acceleration and gas miliage. Will the 3.73's help. I'm also order a bama tuner when gears are bought and jba's.
Thanks

i think the Sports come with 265 series tires.......

i would say 4.10's for driving mostly in the city and if you are really going to change gears....

I've had 3.73 with regular tires (235/75/15) and they weren't to bad but I think 4.10's would just be a bit easier but you might lose a little on the highway(rpms will be higher than usual). I have 31's and I'm putting 4.10's in my truck.

The factory tire size is 235-70-16's. Ford racing has a 3.73 set for 170 i believe, with the tuner and a gear swap i kinda lookin for a few tenths in the quarter also to go with the city driving.

with you will NOT see much, if any improvement going to 3.73's.....that is such a small gear change.........you will want to change again if you ever want larger tires

Lifted is right, The only reason I'm going up to 4.10's from 3.73's and not up to 4.56 gears is because I'm doing the explorer rear end swap.

IRONS1N had the same idea on there 2004 edge 4.0 when they went from 3.55 to 4.10 and saw a great increase in performance. Only major difference being is one is a auto andand mines a 5 spd. I will pm the person to see if i may ask a few questions concerning rpms.
Thanks

i had the stock 3.55's and 235/75/15's and when i went to 4.30's i got an ~2mpg city increase. my highway dropped about 4mpg with the stock tires. with the 32's im getting the same city and an ~2mpg loss on the highway. i dont know honestly why anyone would go from 3.55's to 3.73's if they wanted better mpg for the fact that the benefit will be zero to none seeing as the ratios are so close. the cost of the swap will the same whichever gear you choose, so why spend all that money and get no return? id say 4.10's :)

I also looking for better acceleration, I ran the truck at oriely raceway park tonight 1/4 mile.
.790 rt takin a nap
2.570 60 foot 2500 rpm launch
330 6.877
1/8th 10.435 mph 69.03
1000ft 13.525
1/4 16.144 85.99 mph
not even to half way in third gear at end. 5800 rpm shift.
The people sure liked the 3 inch exhaust and couldnt believe it was a 4.0.

I have the same truck as you, with slightly larger tires, what do you mean the 3.55's are killing you? I drive all city and get 21 mpg in the summer. I think that your 3" exhaust and 10 series muffler are killing your low end, thats my opinion anyway....

Edit:^^^^^^^^^ He beat me to it......

In any event, I think that is his biggest problem, because my truck is pretty quick and I haven't done too much to it.

nope, i had 2.5 from the cat to the muffler then DO 2.25 i actually thought i lost way too much low end... and i did!

when i went to the borla muffler i dropped to SI/SO 2.25 and its awesome!

heck look at the exhaust D is running 2.5" in and 2" DO... he has crazy low end power, big pipes are not the best.

With the 2.5 60 foot with the exhaust now wouldnt 2.5 increase lowend torque and hurt the 60 foot more from more wheel spin, it was on the continental's and i went around the water box not through it. I looking for a set of decent radials for it also, with a 85.99 mph and a better 60foot should be 15's.
If a guy was to buy a set of ford gears and had ford install them it shouldnt void any warranty right?

Wha? If you are worried about wheel spin, get better tires. Your exhaust is hurting your low end AND your 60 foot time. As zach said above, he had 2.5in into dual 2.25 and lost a sh*t load of torque. If I were you, I would go any bigger than 2.5 all the way for a single exit exhaust, and I wouldn't go any more than 2.5in into dual 2in if you are going duals....

Edit: to answer your warranty question, I don't know.....
