4R55E to 5R55E swap

Can this be done as a plug and play swap? My 4R55E is having problems as some of you know and I can get a good 5R55E delivered to me for 300 bones total. Please let me know.

ok, um, let me make a phone call real quick, because the tranny is coming out of an exploder... so it may already have it. Will the PCM plug right up without any mods either?

i can do $300 shipped via UPS Ground.......

That would include:
- 5R55E 4wd transmission (used with 98,000 miles)
- transmission mount
- shift cable
- 5R55E 4.0 OHV PCM
- torque converter (i would get a new one anyways while it is out, they are not that much)
- dust plate
- flywheel (which you shouldn't have to replace)

you also need to find out if the wiring harness is different for the 5R55E and the 4R55E transmissions.......

OK, so asking, since I can't find it on TRS.... Can the 5R55E use the exsisting wiring harness connections of the 4R55E, or does it need something different?

Ok, so, the entire engine bay harness is what you are talking about, I am assuming. That seriously blows! Ok, well, I would be assuming that everything on my 4.0 BUT the transmission would connect up to that harness right? Just want to make sure, because this is one hell of a deal!

Maurice, you wouldn't happen to have the entire harness too would you?

Confused.

OP - your profile says that you have a 94 2.3L auto which I believe came with an A4LD but it sounds like you're also talking about a 4R55E, a 5R55E and a 4.0L. What is truck's year and original engine/transmission/drive and what are you trying to install?

Generally speaking, the 95~97 Rangers are very similar electrically. I'm guessing that swapping the 97 5R in place of the 96 4R is possible, assuming that the PCM and the engine/transmission harness are also swapped. I don't own a 96 Wiring Manual and there are only minor differences from 95 to 97.

you may want to ask bob if he has any wiring diagrams for your truck and what you want to do.

WAIT

your truck is OBDI. his is OBDII

dont think any of this is gonna be easy.

maybe you should think about a rebuild.
His truck is an OBDII....he has a '95.....
