strange chattering

today driving down the road at about 60 mph i noticed a rather noticeable chattering sound. it was coming from the front left. so i got to where i was going and i played with it a bit. at or below 45 mph, it makes no sound at all, above 45 mph it starts to make a non-pattern sound like a chattering of a hub trying to engage. so i threw it in 4wd and it made driving stiff like turning in 4lo. i disengauged 4wd and drove off, but the front was still locked. after driving off about 30 feet it started to loosen up and when it did it started to whine like a hung brake. that too goes away after the truck sits still for about a minute. then it drives fine other than the chattering. so my thoughts are hub? i was just wondering if i was in the right area on this one. if so im going to go from my air-lock hubs to manual hubs.

so i figured it out, twas a strange piece of plastic rubbing against the tire. 134 bucks later i feel like an idiot. attached is a piece of the plastic that cost me money. but the hub was stiff so i needed to replace it anyway.
