Check List For Disc Brake Swap

I must be aggravating some of y'all with all my questions about the disc brake swap but im almost finished!

So far the parts i have are.

New Calipers
New Rotors
New Axle Brackets
New Pads
New Bolts
Custom Teflon SS Brake Lines

Do i have everything or am i messing something? What fluid do yall use, Dot 3 or Dot 4?

Wayne

Rubber hoses

All the fittings from this kit:
http://www.currieenterprises.com/ces...t.aspx?id=3033

You won't need "custom" hard brake lines. You can use 1996-2000 Explorer ones or get a flaring tool and re-flare your current ones. That is what I'm doing.

Currie and Summit are sold out of those lines, they are discountined as well so we are SOL with those lines. Trust me i spent the last week trying to locate some with no luck! That is why i contacted Bonaco Inc for some custom made Teflon coated SS lines with the 3/8 -24 Inverted Flare on end and a 10mm banjo on the other for only a few bucks more than the Curries. I plan to cut and reflare or bend the hardline and attach the Custom SS lines to it.

Dont forget thread lock for the bolts that bolt the axle bracket to the axle flange and for the caliper bolts.

Also, the piece of copper tubing if you want to hook up your ebrake.

I think you said you already had the banjo bolts and copper crush washers.

You can re-bend the stock hardline on the axle (that goes from the tee on top of the diff), or if its in bad shape, get a short universal piece from the auto-store that is already flared, just bend it.

I think that is is. You HAVE TO post a **** ton of pictures.

I have loctite for the bolts!

What size copper tubing is needed? How long? Reason i ask is that id like to machine a need piece of stainless at work to use instead of the copper tube.

Im going to either bent the axle hard line and reroute it or cut and reflare and install my SS lines.

I promise i will post many pictures!

Thanks for all your help! Hope i did all my research correctly and got what i need cause i'll be 2 hours from home doing the swap.....

Tomorrow i will post pictures of the axle/caliper brackets with lines on them to confirm that i cut the correct piece out.

I think i ended up using 1/2in rigid copper pipe (note: its labeled 1/2in but it actually meausre a little big higher). I cut it to length after i had everything installed, so maybe get like 6 or 8in long length total.

After you have modified the caliper bracket, you simply bolt it onto the axle flanges. However, after modifying you will need to bolt the Left bracket onto the right side, and the Right bracket onto the left side.

Looks the same to me bro.

Glad I have a plasma cutter. I just cut off the old backing plates and didn't have to crack open the diff cover.

Pulling the axles is super easy and your diff could probably use the new fluid, use it as an excuse for some maintenance.

I feel you there.....$50 a fill on mine and I've done it 3 times in the past year for various maintenance things and I'm looking to disc swap over the summer :( This axle has been nothing but a wallet sap.
