ABS engaging on Dry Pavement?

I have been having this issue for the past 2-3 weeks, usually happens 3-4 times a week. The ABS is engaging when coming to a stop and slightly turning my wheel (to make a right turn; and the speedo is saying 5-10 MPH or below). It engages like i am sliding on Ice. I just got it back from the dealer and there are no codes in the computer system, and they cannont find anything, nor did the ABS engage when they drove it (of course). They said the ABS is working correctly.

I have been told that it may be occouring since i have a 35x12.50 tire and my speedometer has not yet been corrected? I also read it may be an ABS sensor located by my front brakes that needs replacing?

Help is much appreciated, this needs to be fixed asap. Thanks.

Mine did the same thing when I had my 35's on. I forgot how I got it fixed.

Mine does this when I take it offroad and get it a little dirty. Usually it goes away when it rains, so I'm thinking the senors can get dirty and affect them

I'd check the sensors. It's probably from oversized tires though. I know my truck got a little wacky when I had bigger tires on and I had to hit the breaks hard or something to that extent.

Mine does it, I just learned to ignore it. I thought I had an out of round tire, but it's my ABS.

Eventually I'll get a new sensor.

Solution: New sensor, check wiring.

Interesting, if its the tires, im just wondering why it has JUST started doing it now? I ran 33s for over a year and now the 35s have been on for almost 5 months.

Zach i checked the line you told me about connected to the clip on the frame - everything there looked fine. I cant remeber where the sensor is located?

the sensor mounts into the HUB, the HUB mounts in the spindle. it was that part that was reused when we installed the lift.

the hub holds the CV shaft.

When he put the superlift on, I bet thats what damaged the ABS sensor. Mine was fine (even with 33's) before I took off my spindles. After I did em, I had the ABS "slow down bounce" as I call it

Try putting a new abs sensor on maybe?

mark are you hitting any bumpy roads at all or anything some what wash board surface or anything with just a little hop bump in the road when you brake? if so thats the ABS thinking your slipping. and with the added size of the 35's the ABS modual is probly just pissed off.

abs is over rated mine is disabled... i like it better with out it..

Nope this is happening on perfectly good pavement with no chuck holes or anything. It actually happened the other day pulling out of my driveway. You guys know my driveway has no chuck holes...Its new blacktop. I know exactly what your talking about though. When dad worked for a glass company, 15 years ago, they had a chevy work truck that would do that all the time.

i'm suprized the dealer could not find this seeing as its a common problem on rangers and explorers.

i have a scanner that will look at live data if you want to check it out. what happens is the sensor (useuley the left front) will drop out at 5MPH and below causing a false ABS trigger with no codes in history. i may even have a spare sensor laying around here somewhere.
Interesting...So would that be the only way to figure out if it was a (dropped sensor)? Inspecting it you could not see a problem?

Okay, I'm confused here. Is the ABS light on? If it's not on there is no problem with your speed sensors, and there is nothing wrong with your tone wheels or anything like that. You're just going to waste time and money throwing parts at it. If you're ABS is active when you're turning, it's supposed to be since the inside wheel is traveling slower than the outside wheel. The reason that you notice it more is because the tires are bigger, it takes a noticeable amount of effort to stop those so it feels more intense than it usually is. I can almost guarantee that if you threw your stock wheels on it and made the same stop you wouldn't feel a thing. As for calibrating the tires, it is a good deal to do since it is helpful but it won't fix anything other than the speedometer. If you don't have an aftermarket tuner you can take your truck to Ford and they can do change it with their WDS if you give them how many revs per mile the tire turns. Hope this helps some.

Mark - should the dealer have this type of live data scanner?

The ABS light is NOT on..

Its either the tires or the sensor Mark is talking about.

What i was told is when my speedometer says 0 - i am really actually traveling 1-4 mph, etc. I was told the ABS works from the speedometer, which is measured from the rear tires. So when the ABS is seeing that the speedometer says 0, and the vehicle is moving, that can cause the abs to be triggered etc. This would be from the speedometer left uncorrected from the stock size?
