4wd problem

i see most discussions on late model Rangers...but im hoping someone can shed some light on my problem....i have a 89 Ranger Super 4x4 2.9 with a 3.73 ratio. recently i engaged 4wd and it failed...the drivers side front axle ujoint snapped....im assuming the ujoint is attached to the axle shaft which requires replacement of the entire shaft...am i right? and how big of a job is this?

So it snapped out at the wheel?

If so, it's just a matter of taken out the broken shaft and replacing it. Not to big of a job at all.

yeah...the guys in the shop told me i needed a whole new front end....i guess to them that meant a shaft...but to me that meant o god find a whole new axle....they clarified and relieved my fear....should i change the passenger side too probably? makes sense since that sides just as old lol

If I were you I would do both, just to be on the safe side.

It's not like it's common for these to break, but better safe than sorry
