Rear driveshaft/diff seal leaking...

Tried searching found a bunch of threads about front diff seals leaking... but none about the rears. Its not leaking alot, but enough to **** me off. I know these seals are probably like 5 bucks each, how hard is it to replace? And im not talking about the cover gasket! I've heard these things will tear and spew your axle fluid all over. And seeing how its the original seal with all 143k dirty, greasy, sandy miles on it, my luck would have it fall apart like next week.

its easy to replace, but when you are putting it back togther you have to make sure you do not over tighten the pinion nut and over crush the crush sleeve. the seal is easy to pull if you have the correct tool to do so.

Just had my rear pinion seal fail w/ 49k miles on the clock. Am too busy these days to do my own wrenching.. so I had my neighborhood mechanic take care of it. $230 and change for their time, parts and new fluid.

torque spec for the pinion nut is around 250ftlbs

then there is the rotational torque spec also.

230 is a tad much for under one hours worth of work.

at my shop we would charge 1 hour labor 65 bucks and the price of the seal maybe 25 bucks, do the math.
