what tranny do i have?

My auto tranny may have taken a dump today. I have it in the shop, they're going to have a look at it tomorrow. In case I'm looking at a tranny swap, what is the automatic tranny in an '06 4.0L 4x4? Any suggestions of where I may get a good deal on one new or rebuilt? Hoping my problem is just a shift solenoid.

most likely a 5R55E. where can ya get a deal? unless its broken nowhere. just get her fixed up and beefed up.

im gonna take a shot in the dark and say you put that redline fluid in 3-4 months ago, and thats what blew your trans.

Yes exactly. About 10,000 miles ago. The truck only had 62,000 miles when I did the flush and filter change. The color of the fluid I replaced looked good and it did not smell burnt. Don't have a diagnosis from the shop yet though. What do you suggest I do to the original tranny to beef it up? I used Redline because of their reputation and I believe in preventive maintenance so it just seems retarded that a person can't keep their tranny fluid fresh without risking a blown tranny. I actually only used 4 quarts of Redline, plus 1 quart Lucas for transmissions, plus 10 quarts Valvoline Mercon V.

yea mixing fluids is bad. stick with ford stuff next time. the trans shop will know what to do to beef it up.

guarantee that mix is exactly what killed it.

Keep lucas stuff out of your truck. They really aren't that great.

I am also running a Redline/Lucas combination in my transfer case and rear diff. Do you think I should drain those and replace with ford fluids? If so I've wasted a lot of money doing my every-fluid change.
Also, how do I make word(s) in my posts into a link to another thread? Here is the link for the thread about my every-fluid change I did a few months back. https://www.ranger-forums.com/drivetrain-tech-37/doing-every-fluid-change-128711/

I wouldn't be so worried about the transfer case, pretty sure thats just splash lubed for the most part. Same with a Manual Trans. But I definitely would not use Lucas in my engine or Auto trans.

First, copy the link you want to link us to. Then Highlight whatever word in your post, and click the thing up top of the reply box that looks like the earth with a chainlink on it. paste your link in there and hit ok.

Still waiting on a diagnosis from the shop. They said they would try to get to it tomorrow. Good thing I'm working out on the road and have a company vehicle or this would be very inconvenient!

Why would you put lucas 'transmission FIX' in a healthy tranny? That junk is for transmissions that are on their way out.

Lucas recommends adding a bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix each time you change your transmission fluid (approximately every 30-40,000 miles), or adding a bottle to your current fluid to fix a small leak. I was thinking preventive maintenance. I guess you live, you learn. If I have this tranny rebuilt, should I put in any additive at all? What's involved in swapping over to a manual tranny? If I swap to a manual, do I have to change the computer? I was also wondering, if I swap to a manual transfer case, can it work with an automatic tranny, or do I have to have a manual tranny?

Of course thats what they recommend, cause it makes their wallet heavier. The only product i've ever bought into was seafoam, and thats cause I saw it work.

Just wanted to let you guys know my transmission turned out to be just fine. My problem was clogged up catalytic converters. Here's a link to my new thread about this.
