Rear wheel lockup?

So i bought this truck two months ago and when i apply moderate pressure to the pedal my right rear is locking up way before all my other brakes start to really slow me down, and it has potential to screw me over if i have to brake hard because the truck does not slow down much once its locked up. Could it be that i need a good brake bleed, or is there something else going on here that im not thinking of?

cheers

oh and it has rear abs which does kick in... eventually.

is it every stop or just the first few when the brakes are cold and its damp out?

bfd's_ranger 08-17-2011 06:51 PM

no it happens whenever, even if ive been driving around for a couple hours.
i havent had any wet weather yet, its been mostly warm and dry out.

im pretty well stumped here.

Pull off your rear drum obviously. I bet the inside brake parts, one of the lil parts broke and is jamming up when you press the brakes.

The best thing, although it not make you excited, is to switch to disc brakes :) Just got em, love em. Hate drums forever.

Thanks maybe ill take a look at it tomorrow, your right disks are king, however money isnt exactly growing on my tree right now. maybe when i get a 31 spline rear ill throw some expo disks on it.

Pull the drum off the offending brake.
Check to see if the primary and secondary shoes are reversed or the primary and secondary springs are reversed.
Either will cause your issue.

disc wont solve your problem because my truck does it because my abs light is on and i need an abs unit my truck is scary in the rain if you arent paying attention and have to jam on the brakes

Mine used to do that. Brake hardware inside the drum broke off.. jammed in there and screwed up the wheel cylinder and the little piston thingy-ma-jiggy, lol. It was pricey to have replaced.
