ya but any new clutch will cause smoother shifting then. if your clutch is gone then its going to be hard to get in gear. also might want to think about replacing the slave cylinder too

yea, that's what I mean, cause sometimes it will go into gear fine, then other times it will be harder than **** to get into gear and sometimes ill have to use two hands to get it into reverse, I know the clutch is shot cause I have slipped pretty bad mudding a few times, and I'm thinking it's glazed.

Even if it was glazed, I would have no effect on shifting, it just wouldn't hold as much power. You have other issues.

Hard shifting is usually an indicator that the clutch is not fully disengaging. It could be the pressure plate isn't traveling far enough from a worn spring plate. Bad throughout bearing or pilot bearing dragging on input shaft. Or a slave or master cylinder leaking. to determine if your clutch is damaged try starting out in third gear if you can get your truck to move with out stalling the motor or slipping the clutch at the clutch petal chances are your clutch is gone or near enough it is going to fail really soon.

i can tell you right now that your slave cylinder is going bad. you have to drop the tranny to replace it so replace the clutch while your at it.

Well, I am taking that tranny out this weekend anyway to put the new clutch in, and I had already planned on replacing slave cylinder, but as far as a glazed clutch goes, it would cause a problem. If I slip the **** out of it, it's ganna get hot which is where hot spots on a pressure plate and clutch come from, and when it gets hot and you put a glazing on it, it will cause the clutch to wear, thus giving me my problem of getting it in and out of gear. I'm not arguing or calling you a dumbass btw. That may not be the full issue, I'm just saying that's part of the reason it is such a ***** to go into gear.

If the clutch is getting worn, it won't cause a shifting issue, it won't hold power. I can see a worn out slave giving you your issue, not a worn clutch or pressure plate. A worn plate would make it easier for the slave to disengage it.

EDIT: Worn as in spring fatigue. Not worn as in the where the TO beari9ng rides. If it's worn there it would cause it.

I can see you are trying to work through this but hard shifting is because the input shaft isn't disengaging completely. Could be you warped the flywheel or pressure plate if you got it hot enough you could have de-laminated the disc There are lots of things that can cause a trans to be hard to shift but a worn clutch disc isn't one of them. It would be just the opposite and make shifting at half petal possible. Hot spots on a pressure plate, flywheel will cause shuttering when you shift or when you engage the clutch from a dead stop. The hot spots will be harder then the surrounding material causing less wear in those spots. Making it impossible to turn on a lathe and will need to be Blanchard ground to return it to a single smooth surface.

Good luck, I am sure you will figure it out, just let us know what you find and take pictures!

You should also get a slave cyl while you're at it. Save you some time if it's an issue.
