Front drive shaft cv joint (99)

So, when I swapped my trans the front drive shaft fell apart. I did not see how the bearings went back into the cv. I placed them all in the cage, but that is not correct. Anyone have some knowledge on how this goes back together. My ford manual has zero info on that.

did the u-joint caps fall off or did the CV end fall apart(t-case side) i have my stock front shaft that ill sell if you need it, it has about 14k miles on it, 0 miles with the RCD so its not excessively worn

The cv end fell apart. Im not sure how it is suppose to be put together. It is in the truck now but when 4wd is engaged the drive shaft will spin in the cv assembly.

As it stands the end of cv is frozen to the tcase. I am soaking it every few days with PB blaster. So my next attempt to remove it i don't need to pull the tcase off.

I am interested in your driveshaft if mine is hosed.

Currently no.

When it was out i did use a 3lb hammer. At that point it wasn't necessary to remove the drive shaft as the tcase was out. So i didn't try to hard. Now 4wd doesn't work and needs to come out. I'm not going to pull it out until i know how its suppose to be assembled.

Stealing Wayne's hosting here.

Its the same as this one. I'm sure its the same as yours. Maybe my wording was off a bit. The shaft goes into the cv. Where the bolts go in is a boot flange that covers and protects the cv. With out the bolts to hold it together it will come apart. When mine did i didn't see how it was assembled as i had a nitrile glove over the end. I ended up with a cage and bearings in the glove with no indication of how they went in. I placed all the bearings inside the cage which must be wrong. As soon as the hubs engage the drive shaft spins in the cv, shaking violently.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I really don't need a superlift drive shaft but if i need a new one why not.

well i tore it apart and my vote is get another shaft... when mine finally came apart it blew in a bunch of pieces and ***** and grease all over...

so the stuff i got isnt much help.

i tried to put it back together but that wasnt working out. if you want to use the one you have then all the grease and ***** need cleaned then set back in.

if you want pics ill get some. just say.

sorry man. but i was talking to my dad and if yours fell apart that easy we think it was hosed to begin with.

It was actually in good shape, it just came out with the weight of the shaft hanging off of the tcase. No metal shavings and clean purple grease. However being installed incorrectly I'm sure its hosed now. Ty Zach for your effort.

I was going to get a superlift shaft but Scott offered me a very nice deal.
