Diff fluid level Mac cover

Long story short, a long long time ago i stripped out (badly) my oil check/fill for my 8.8. I just bought a Mac cover and put 3qt's in. I haven't really drove the truck much more than 1 mile yet, I just wanted to see how much fluid everyone else with aftermarket covers are putting in. I was thinking more like 3.5 to 4qt's. I can't check the oil level out of the fill hole b/c it's stripped. I can't drill it out b/c it is right next to the ring gear...so thats out of the question, and I can't get it out with an extractor, it just tore it up even more, it's cranked on pretty tight on top of all the heat and such, I'd say it's a solid 100ftlbs.

I just went with 3qt's so i could add more. I'm about to put the other 1qt in. The whole thing is that the manual says 2.5quarts so I thought 3qt's would be fine

use the stock fill hole when you add the oil, not the fill hole provided on the mac diff cover. you could end up with too much using the mac hole.

gotcha. Its still a valid point for others looking to do this. You can over fill using the mac hole if you fill it to the top.

Definetly! You could easily put in 5qt's or more before it came out the hole.

I'd say 3qt's is about right, I have 3 in there right now and it seems right to me.

I filled it up to the top hole in the mac cover. I got so much in there the oil leaked out of the breather tube or the vent tube, whatever it is called. I'm not sure what I did. lol. I might of had the rear jacked up so high that it allowed way too much oil in it. It's been a while, but for some reason 7 quarts comes to my mind. I kept filling until it was level with the hole. I had to run to the store to get some more. Thinking "man, that cover sure adds a lot more oil"

nothing wrong with overfilling, it will just "puke" what it doesnt need out the breather tube.

I forgot to mention it was at the 1/4 mile track. They don't take kindly to oil on their track.

Haha, sounds like something I would do.

I'm sitting at 3qt's right now, thats what silver said it took him...sounds right to me if it took 2.5 stock. I may add a little just to be safe, my breather tube is extended to my engine compartment, so it will just throwup there...no biggie
