Front axle maintenance

I am in the process of converting my ranger to 4wd, I was wondering what everyone recommended checking/replacing on the front differential while it is out of the truck? Thanks

You should at least change the oil and inspect the teeth.

If you have the skills or the cash to replace the bearings now is the best time to do so, it will be required if a gear change is in order.

Thank you, I will open it up and look at the teeth, I assume the inner bearings are hard to change, what about the outer bearings are they difficult?

Outers are easier, you may need to get tools to do the job.
