Replacing Front Wheel Hubs
Replacing Front Wheel Hubs
I have determined that my driver side wheel hub/bearing is bad on my 2004 4.0 Edge. I have replaced these before on a 2wd Tahoe, but never anything 4x4. Is there anything unusal that would make this too difficult? Any tips?
Thanks,
Chris

On a 4wd the bearing is a sealed unit and houses the abs sensor in it. You have to unbolt the 3 bolts on the back of the spindle and the CV nut to get it off. They are pricey as well since they have the sensor inside them. I haven't done them myself but I have heard they are easy to change.
Great, that's what I wanted to hear. It was the same on the 2wd Tahoe, just 3 bolts, but I wasn't sure if it would easilt slide of the axles or not. I ordered a pair of them (for both sides) so we'll see how it goes.

i just did mine this morning. took about an hour. i did have to use a puller to get the hub off tho. i just put tension on the puller and used a chisel and hammer at the joint. 3 good wacks and it came right off. pretty straight forward in my opinion and this is the fist time i have ever changer a hub. also i used some never seize on the new hub incase i ever have to do it again, and i lubed the caliper sliders while i was in there.
