Anyone want to trade an auto for a manual?

I have an 05 ranger and have been curious about a 5 speed manual swap. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I figure I will need a whole donor truck minus the engine to pull it off.

yeah I miss my manual shifter.....I bought this because it was a great truck at a huge discount brand new, I only had 2 choices, a red edge with a manual and a 4.0 2 door or a 4 door XLT 4.0 auto. The edge was more too, I would of thought it should have cost less. I searched every dealer within 40 miles of me over a weeks time and just bought this one.

Can anyone help? How about starting with what years the manual tranny that my truck should have came in are and if there is a specific identification number or name for it, like my 5rreereerr (however many e's and r's are there) auto? Don't rangers have hydraulic clutches? I am sure I need a computer swap as well, right? How about tranny crossmember mounts? IS my driveshaft the same length and will it slide right into the manual tranny? Tahnks

You will need a different computer I think, the drive shafts arent the same if I remember correctly, A manual trans from any ranger 2001 and up 4.0 should fit your truck, after all, they are all SOHC.

i too am looking into a swap. What else needs to be switched out? Does everything fit up right as it would like it were built with a manual or is there a need for some conversion pieces? How about the computer, are all the connections just able to be unplugged and the swap made?

Unless you are planning on keeping this truck for, well ever. it will be cheaper and better just to trad ein for the transmission you want. I would put this one step below converting 4x2 to 4x4, in as the steps and s\cost required to do it totally more then the depreciation of trading in.
