question for Bob, or whoever
how hard would it be to make a electric shift transfer case work on my soon to be fully converted to 4WD but was a stock 2WD truck?
is this something that could be done or should i just try to find a manual shift unit? I'd rather go "shift on the fly" electric so i wont have to cut any holes and make shifter brackets.
i know there is a 4x4 module and somewhat how it works, could the shift motor work without the module?

For the 13-54 electric T/C, you'd need a 2004 or equivalent 4x4 Module and a radio bezel with the 4x4 switch to duplicate the factory setup. There is surely some wiring to add and there are connections to the PCM and instrument cluster. I don't know if your 2WD PCM is calibrated to work with the 4x4.
It's been a long time since Ford offered a Ranger with automatic trans/manual T/C combination. The hole in the floor is big enough but the cover plate assembly is different and might be hard to find. Same for a linkage.

If this helps, which it may or may not.
Ryan (ryanrebel125) has a b2 transfer case on his. He just cut a hole where it needed to be. He said everything bolted up, the only difference is the output shaft from a 1354 ranger electric tcase. You may have to get a custom driveshaft or just a converter.
I know zach beard knows about that stuff more than I do.

The electric T/C motor has feedback position sensing that tells the module when it's in the correct position for 2HI, 4HI or 4LO. This is a rotary arrangement with the modes set 90 degrees apart. There are no mechanical stops for each position, so you can't just do something simple like pushbuttons or whatever.

The 1354 cases (manual and electric) were intro'd to the Ranger along with the 4.0L OHV in 1992 and later went across the board to all Ranger engines. Before the 1354 was the lighter duty 1350, also in manual and electric versions.

Luckily, there is the possibility of changing the front shaft or doing a flange conversion for many installations.

yeah but if you get one with the flange in the tcase you can find driveshafts all day long.
Jeeps I know XJ 90-01, IM sure others do as well, Explorers all pre97 or 96, Rangers all pre97
And you dont have that retarded CV that does not work well on angles. but does work well with a stock 4wd.
