2003 B3000 will have a 5R44E automatic, same as the 5R55E as far as trouble shooting and info, also the same as 4R44E and 4R55E, so you will often see them lumped together, and they use many of the same parts
5R is a 5-speed automatic, 4R was the 4-speed version
Bell housing on any transmission must match the ENGINE you have, so a 5R44E from a 2.3l engine won't fit onto your 3.0l engine
Also 2WD or 4x4 matters, 4x4 5R44E can't be used on 2WD vehicle
Computer is detecting a problem either in the engine or transmission so is disabling OD, it is using Safe Mode, shifting may also be harsher when in safe mode
Rebooting the computer, key off and key on resets it until it "sees" the problem again
You need to have the computer codes read, they do it for free at most auto parts stores, but needs to be a reader that can read Transmission codes as well as Engine codes, so ask them first
WRITE DOWN any codes, "I think the code was..................." is worse than no code, lol, so WRITE IT DOWN!!!!!
There are many things that can cause what you describe, including low fluid level.
When was the last time transmission was serviced?
1995 and up Rangers and B-series use OBD2 codes, full list here: https://therangerstation.com/tech_li...II_codes.shtml
NEVER Google a code number, look it up on a FULL LIST
The Computer has several codes it can use for ONE part, the codes it does NOT USE are as important as the one it does use
P0700 to P0804 are transmission codes
