1st post! re-gearing 1st truck!

Hey guys,

just bought my first truck. it was a buddys. its sitting on 33s and stock gears. its the 97 xlt 4.0 manual tranny.

He suggested i re-gear it to 4.10 or 4.65

Ill be driving mostly freeway, a little city, and a little less towing and offroading.

Any suggestions on how I should re-gear it? Id like to hear from all you guys with experience.

Thanks!

What axle is it?

My suggestion is 4.33's with 33" tires

There is a code on the axle housing, your door sticker will tell you as well

odds are slim with a truck that old tags would be there. i have 31's and 3.73s. it would be comparable to your 33's and 4.10s. you wouldnt be quick off the line but it wouldnt be a dog either.
if you dont mind sacrificing a few rpms going with 4.56's and your 33" tires would put your truck in the power band where it is supposed to be or where it was with stock tires/gears.
