99 Hub Assembly
thought id throw up a thread about the 99 axle hub assembly replacement with some pics and stuff
im expecting the call from my shop to confirm its the bearing (hub) assembly.
when i go to take it apart and get the parts list together, do you guys have any suggestions?
going with timken hub assembly from JCWhit for 183. will be replacing the manual locking hub o ring. told to replace the main knuckle seal as well. and to grease up the seal, and orings on the hub and hub assembly. any other thoughts on this before i get it all together? any torque specs that i will definitely want to look up or tools that i will NEED?
thanks

I got one off ebay for 40 bucks and the orange snap ring for another 15 which you have to replace.
The snap ring is a pain to remove and install, the ford tool is useless. I used a pick set to remove the metal clip spring thing and pull the orange plastic out. Essentially destroying it. Best method I have found is to use a socket that will fit in the space and tap it on with hammer. Then use a screwdriver to lightly slide into place. If you run manual hubs you can skip replacing the seals, (which you need tools for too) as air sealing is less critical. As long as you see no tears in the rubber you are good to go.
