Icon4 Issue with brakes

Well I've noticed recently that its getting harder to stop my truck. I only noticed when coming down a hill or stopping in emergency situations

I feel like I have to push to the floor to get it to stop, I understand its a truck and won't stop on a dime, but it's definitely gotten worse.

I checked the brake booster, it's good.

I checked the rear pads, the seem to have plenty of padding left.

I checked front pads (ceramic), they were checked late last year and had plenty of padding.

The ABS is fine, i guess, since there is no light on.

What else can I check? My mechanic back home says the master cylinder might be going bad.

On my way home I noticed coming slowly down a hill when I pushed the brakes, I felt and heard a creaking in the brake pedal.

I hope someone here can help me, I have limited tools available at the time since I'm at college.

But I need to figure something out, as of now I have an appointment at the dealership for Friday to have it checked.

Well I took it to another shop and it turns out the problem is the pads. The fronts.

Ceramic pads stick better once they've heated up, my issue was in the morning's not being able to stop good. Well now I know, because they're cold.

Plus, he looked at my rotors and they have some distinct grooves in them, he recommended changing the pads and rotors.

I'm gonna replace the rotors with stock ones, but I haven't decided on new pads.

I hate brake dust and they need to be good pads. The mechanic recommend Wagner Ultra Quiet pads, he said every customer who bought them has had no complaints.

They're rated for 30K city driving, 50K if you highway drive and are easy on braking.

So I guess I need to start getting prices.

Thanks for the tip

Where should I get rotors? Autoanyting.com has replacements for $58

Tasca has them for $71

What kind of advantages would I get with going premium centric vs standard?

Whats the difference of RWD and 4WD on rockauto?

I'm going out on a limb and guessing RWD = 2WD

I'm going with premium replacement rotors

RWD refers to 2wd pick-ups

front rotors are with built-in with space for internal bearings and races

Thank you, now I know which ones I need.

FWIW of all the places I looked to buy rotors, rockauto.com was the cheapest.

Discovered the problem.

When I replaced my pads with the ceramics, I didn't turn the rotors or do anything.( At the time I didn't know much about brakes)

It caused uneven wear on the pads and they didn't seat right.

The dust I was noticed on the wheels was actually coming from the rotors.

The rotors cannot be turned at this point.

So, now I'm gonna step up to slotted rotors and Wagner Thermoquiet ceramic pads.

I'm glad it wasn't anything worse

slotted and/or drilled rotors on our trucks don't do anything and are a waste of money... and many shops won't bother turning them.

From what I've heard and read the slotted rotors will last longer than replacement rotors.

I don't think they can be turned

I'm definitely not getting drilled, but I've been told slotted will make a difference.

Napa gold rotors or motorcraft. Anything cheaper than them comes out of china. They aren't worth the hassle.

I have ceramic pads on my truck and they don't stop like the semi metallic do at least at first. They don't fad so that's a plus I guess. They will eat a rotor though.

Hawk make a nice pad too, you can get them from Tirerack.com and maybe some auto parts stores.
