slave
so, my truck has a few small problems... mainly, when i'm driving, my clutch makes a squeeking noise, sounds kinda like a straw being pulled out of a plastic lid, like the one you would get from mcdonalds or something... this is more prominently noticed at higher RPM, like 4000, for instance, it is unmissable... the next issue is that when i stop at a stop light, especially a long light, if i'm waiting in neutral, with the clutch out, it is hard to get into first gear... and on more than 1 occasion, it has refused to go into gear... i had to put it back into neutral, let the clutch out, and try again... it usually has issues going into gear, doesn't slide in like butter... just a little rough...
ANYWAYS, i took it in last week, and i asked what my last oil change was, (mileage) and booked a new one, and proceeded to ask the guy what he thought the problem was on my truck (knowing that the answer was slave cylinder) of course, he answered slave... so i go on to talk about issues that i have, and he pipes up that it's my lucky day, there is a TSB out on my truck, as long as i'm in 3 years, 60 000 km, only problem is my truck is now at 75 000 km... so i'm hooped there (even though this problem has been occuring since i bought the truck at 61500, 6 months ago) so then i go talk to the sales manager, and dig out my origional sales receipt, the first piece of paper i signed, when i put my deposit down, to get the truck into the shop (yeah i know, doesn't make sense... long story) and sure enough, i covered my ass, and on september 2nd, 2009, i had the sales manager (no longer at this dealership) write in the additional provisions, "1 year, 20 000km warranty on clutch, subject to non abuse" :D i am laughing... so the new manager (i should add here, the manager who wrote that, the new car manager at the time, was gone by the time the final deal was written, the used car manager, the person who signed off on the final sale, is gone as of now, and my sales person, is gone as of now) so the new manager and i go and book an appointment for a long day of work at the dealership on my truck, it is this friday, the 19th at 915 am... so now that you know the whole back story, my question is this... how are they going to manage to **** me over on this? i'm thinking they are going to pull the "there's nothing wrong" in which i can take them out to the parking lot and show them, and see if they will lie to my face when i point to the metaphorical hole in the side of the motor. or they could say that they had to replace the clutch and pressure plate, which i will have to pay, out of pocket, and the old one cannot be re-used, at which point i think i would play the, i know it CAN be re-used (even though, off the record, i wouldn't re-use it, i would put a new one in, being we are in there) or i could play that it's part of the clutch, and is covered under the warranty... anything else you guys think they might pull to get money out of me? |
Did they seem pissed about it and give you a hard time? If not i wouldn't worry about it.

They will probably get you for other things they "noticed" while under the truck.
They'll pull the driveshaft and "notice" the "bad " u-joint and suggest they all should be replaced. They'll "notice" the rear seal starting to leak on the tranny/transfer case. They'll "notice" a problem on the exaust system. Amazing what they "notice" after the work has begun. |

so the truck went in today, i'm a little anxious to hear what they are going to do...
they did sell me a tire rotation at the same time... oh well... it's 29.99, plus the labour on the oil change, which is 29.99, but i have a $50 service voucher from when i bought my truck |
See it doesn't take hours to do an oil change. My friend was a tech at a chevy dealership and he had it down to like 10 minutes and that included pulling the car onto the ramp and off. They have a lift and its 1000XXXXXX easier doing it that way.

oh i know man, i used to work at a quick lube place, i think we wanted our roll times (in and out) to 25 minutes, that's WITH high pressure sales and driveline service, we were taught that if you have a 4wd vehicle, with a manual transmission, you should be able to sell the person the the front &rear diffs, t-case and transmission fluid drain and fills, and the full oil change, in and out, 25 minutes...

so, just talked to the dealership, it is my "clutch gear set" which includes flywheel, clutch, t/o bearing and a few other things...
i was explained the gearset was about $450 and the labour is around $800, at which point i asked the service advisor to talk to the sales manager, who then went to the general manager, they called me back and said they would honor it, but the parts wouldn't be in till monday |
they called back, turns out my front and rear brakes just happen to have 2mm on the pads and shoes, and the rotors and drums, are AT spec... lol
so, i'm going to have to do my brakes... they want $1000 for it |
Brake pads and shoes should cost no more than $100 for all 4 corners.
An entire clutch kit here with clutch, slave, t/o bearing and pressure plate is $230. If you know how to take stuff apart, it's easy to put back together and will save you labor costs. |
i'll do the brakes myself, i'm not worried about that... i have a waranty on my clutch, it was part of the conditions of sale, so i'm not paying a dime for it to be replaced
they are replacing the slave, flexplate, pressure plate, flywheel, t/o bearing, pilot bearing, and a couple other things |

flex plate = automatic
flywheel = manual |
that's what i thought, but the guy kept saying flexplate... wasn't going to argue with him, he's not the one that's installing it
