Slow shift into drive

Lately been noticing on my auto 4 cylinder, when it's cold at least like it has been all winter, that it has a noticeable delay when shifting into drive after you pull the column shifter. It seems fine other than that but I haven't taken it over 40 km/hour yet because it needs new tires so I'm not too sure if it shifts between gears well. Any ideaS?

I assume you have checked the fluid level since you noticed this

What about Reverse, that requires high pressure than Drive?

Also try shifting to 1st instead of Drive and see if it engages sooner

Actually I havent, my wife's been driving it and she informed me. I'll check tomorrow and see where it's at.

2005 2.3: my truck is like that sometimes. I have a newer transmission and valve body. I just always make sure it’s in gear before I move. It doesn’t happen all that often but it has happened.

Colour is nice and pink, smells fine, dipstick all good. Drive's fine and shifts into higher gears no prob, just its a bit of a wait when first putting it into drive and then it sort of lurches into it

That's good about the color and smell

I would ask around if anyone you know recommends a local transmission shop, there are good ones and bad ones just like ANY business
Or look online at the reviews about local trans shops

A transmission shop can hook up pressure gauges to transmission and see the pressure in all the gears and adjust that pressure if it needs it, or adjust the bands if needed

I would call and ask the price to test it

What I would worry about is that if it is a pressure issue then it will get lower(worse), and that can cause clutches to slip and brakes(bands) to slip as well, that's not happening now, so its early days

Another thought is you may be due for a new transmission filter. if they plug you will lose ability to shift properly on any automatic.
