Shift motor is only electric part on 4WD manual trans, so it would have a fuse.
In a 1994 it is #7 in engine fuse box
Good read here on 1994 and older 4WD controls: Ford Ranger 4WD Control Module
Only other wiring is the Reverse lights
'94 also had VSS(speed sensor) along with speedo cable, VSS is for Cruise, RABS and computer use
Neutral wire is the Clutch pedal switch so not part of trans wiring

So would you say that there ar no fuses that would cause the transfer case to engage on its own?
Thanks

Electric shift motor has a fuse but the power from the fuse passes thru the 4WD control module, it has the Relay that send power to the shift motor.
So either it is causing motor to move or a shorted button in the dash 4WD selector is causing it to move.
Shift motor doesn't have direct power

I need to trouble shoot the problem with my drivetrain. My last transmission locked up on me and this one is showing the same symptoms (used). How can I tell if the shift motor, 4wd button/switch, or anything else is bad before dropping the Trans?
Can I do it with a voltage meter?
Thanks again

What was wrong with original transmission?
Why did it lock up what failed inside?
If you are on flat ground with trans in Neutral, engine off, can you roll the truck easily?
Is the front drive shaft turning?
And if driving on flat ground when you push the clutch pedal in does it stay rolling or does it seem to slow down faster than it should.
I can't see transfer case issue "burning out" manual trans, you would notice serious power loss and lots of rolling resistance first.
M5OD-R1 failures are usually from low fluid levels, they heat up and bearings go out.
These transmissions use AFT instead of gear oil so it can leak out easier, rubber plugs top back of transmission are main leak point.
I assume the transfer case shifting works OK now

Can all be engaged and disengaged using the electric shift?
You can test 4WD module and motor, read here: Ford Ranger 4WD Control Module

I never seemed to have a problem rolling the truck in neutral. Below is a link to my post about the problems. I think the driveshaft turns when in 4wd but my 4wd has never worked right. When I first put it in it works a little bit then it just sits there and spins and you can hear it striping out. I've always assumed it was the hubs I just never got to change them.
