Spline Determination issue + Locker
Through the literature Ive read I have an R6 Axle code, 3.73 L/S 8.8 on my 98 B4000. But can't seem to find any info on splines, especially with the tag on the pumpkin gone. Anyone able to help?
My goal here is to find an open diff for a locker, am I right in saying an axle code of 91-98 Open diff will work? and only an axle code of 96 will work if im using that ring gear due to the 3.73? Link for reference as to what Im looking at. Rear Axle Codes / Determine Gear Ratio - Ford Ranger Forum |
you have a 28 spline 8.8
you technically could use any open 28 spline 8.8 carrier and just swap over your existing ring gear. just remember ring gears and pinons need to stay together. |

while most lockers are put into open carriers, there is 1 that fits the LSD carrier.
trying to remember ,,, Powertrax maybe? I saw the 2 listings just a couple days ago. I'll try to find the site. and get back here. |
locker for LSD carrier info
found the info
Motivegear website. under EZlink enter 2000 Ranger 4wd 4.0 8.8 x 28 rear, differential parts. open tab for locker, there are listings for Powertrax 9206882807 for the open carrier, 9206882827 for the LSD carrier. this way you can leave the gears alone. |
