Icon7 Stiff stick?

For the last 5 months or so, my 1995 Ranger has been difficult to get into 1st gear, usually. I didn't think much of the problem until recently, when it has been very difficult to get into 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th gear!? I feel like I am going to break my wrist just trying to push the stick into gear... especially 1st. Ggrrrrr. The brake fluid reservoir was low, so am refilling that now. I've been doing some reading and repeatedly see "bad slave cylinder" come up... The problem seems like it may be worse with colder outdoor temps. There is no gear grinding sound, except randomly when putting it in reverse.
Any opinions on what is going on with my money-pit of a truck? I feel like it is always one thing after another. I don't want to take it in and have no knowledge of what is going on (i.e. I don't want to get ripped off just because I am a woman). I recently replaced the oil filter/oil, spark plugs and fuel pump. Yes, i did it myself!
Please help!!? THANK YOU!!

x3 on a bad slave cylinder. Hopefully you can get some help on removing your transmission if that's the case.

When you mentioned "brake fluid reservoir" I assume you meant the slave cylinder reservoir??

Master and Slave are going to go hand in hand, if you replace one and it still does it.. it's the other that's still bad.

I just ran across this same problem last weekend after replacing my slave only to find out the master itself was bad too. New master was $38 for me

not always, done 4 or 5 ranger slaves and none of them have had bad master cylinders.

I had a shop, years back, replace a trans in my Wife’s Navajo before finding out the Slave was bad. She didn’t talk to me until after the fact, she thought she was doing the right thing by OK’g the work, got F’d on that one. Never went back to the shop again...

Not sure how to test it before replacing the trans but get it done first.
