Still no 4x4....
 

I have an 00 Mazda B4000 4x4 with ESOF. My 4x4 hasn't been working and I cannot figure out why. I don't belive it's the shift motor because I can feel and hear the transfer case engage as well as the normal click it used to make when put into 4x4H. After lifting all 4 wheels off the ground and putting the vehicle into 4x4, again no power to the front wheels, yet the front driveshaft is spinning. My hubs seems to be fine unless i'm missing something, and the vacuum lines don't seem to be puntured at all.

I unhooked the vaccum line from the "module" sitting under and to the left of the rad under the truck where the foglights are connected and lots of air pressure shot out so that tells me the vaccum lines are fine. Doesn't it?

Anyways, I'm not out of ideas and want to stay as far away from a shop as I can but is there anything else I can do? Thanks.

It seems like you have checked alot of possibilities. I would take it into a shop and get a free estimate and have them diagnosis the problem.

The hubs not locking is a common problem that our trucks have. I am not sure if you knew this or not. I had the same problem you have and the way I fixed it was FREE, easy, and painless. Check this thread. Vac hub fix

I think this will solve your problem. If it doesn't then you must have some serious differential problems but I think that is prolly not likely since you don't have any other problems.

take it to the dealer, and have them run a diagnotic they shouldnt charge you anything maybe a few$

A mechanic told me my pulse vacuum hubs are probably shot. But before I spend 280$ on replacing them... how do I know forsure that its my problem? How can I distinguish whats not working without doing a system diag?

Btw, if anyone wants to part with their PVH from a 98-00 ranger or has access to some used ones, I'll pay decent money for them as long as its better than a 280$ bill for brand new ones.

IMO, the PVH system is more trouble than it's worth. If I had a 98~2000 1/2 Ranger, I would do this and be rid of them for good. The article was written a few years ago and recommends the use of 95-on Explorer parts. I don't know for sure but I think that means that you could also use 2001+ Ranger halfshafts if they are easier to find.
