WILL A 1986 FORD BRONCO II TRANS FIT INTO A 1988 RANGER?

I JUST BOUGHT A 1988 FORD RANGER XLT WITH A 2.9 L, 4X4 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.THE BODY AND INTERIOR ARE BEAUTIFUL BUT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED,I BEEN LOOKING AROUND FOR ONE.
I FOUND A 1986 FORD BRONCO II WITH A 2.9 L,4X4 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT THE OWNER SAYS THE TRANSMISSION WAS RECENTLY REBUILT AND SHIFTS GREAT BUT THE MOTOR IS GONE.HE'LL SELL ME THE COMPLETE BRONCO II FOR 400 BUX.

BUT DOES ANYONE KNOW WILL THE 1986 BRONCO II TRANSMISSION WORK IN THE 1988 FORD RANGER XLT ? ANY INFORMATION WILL BE HELPFULL AND APPRECIATED

It should be the same A4LD but I've been wrong before. My experience lies with the manual trans. I swapped an 86-87 BII manual trans into my 89 manual Ranger..

Sorry I can't help you more.

I have the same problem and the same exactact truck! The only tranny you can use in that truck will be 1988 Bronco 2. And a 1988-89 Ranger trannys. Good luck with it!! I priced a tranny at a junkyard and they wanted 400 just for the tranny.

an 86 bronco II would probably not have an A4LD in it BUT its a possibility...if they are both the same engine, and they both have overdrive, then they will interchange...just make sure they have the same connectors and stuff on them

I have the exact same vehicles and thought the trans were the same. A buddy pulled the one out of the 86 Bronco 2 and gave it to me. Started tearing mine out of the 88 Ranger and they are NOT alike...Not even close. I do believe the Ranger is an A4LD but no idea what the Bronco is. Both had the "T" designation under trans on the door jam..
