Icon13 swapping engines will this work ?

My 2000 ranger with a 2.5 burned a hole in the number one piston. I was told the dual spark plug 2.5 isn't a durable engine. I want to know will my computer run a 2.3 engine if I decide to swap instead ?

Very doubtful that computer will work with a 2.3. A computer isnt terrible to buy and very easy to change. Have you looked into what else will and will not work? I don't no a single thing about these 2 engines.

not that they aren't reliable, I heard they are succeptible to over heating and cracking between the spark plugs is this just one persons opinion. what is the forums opinion of the 2.5 ?

Your 2.5L computer will run a 95-97 2.3L LIMA engine just fine with a re-tune. There's isn't much difference between the two...little bit of head difference and of course the stroke gain of the 2.5. The computer will NOT run a 2.3 Duratec found in '01.5-'12 trucks.

The Lima engine's are reliable, stout, and pretty economical little dinosaur engines. Though under powered, I've seen them unopened with 300,000+ miles on them. Plus they're stupid simple to work on....blow 'em apart and put 'em back together.

If I was in your shoes, if she's got lower miles, pop for pistons and a re-ring job. If she's high in miles, start looking for as-low-as-you-can-find replacement engines. 98-00 2.5L. Check out car-part.com...it's an online database of junkyards by region and their inventories.
