T-case cost
 

IM really tired of always getting stuck since i only have 2wd so i am going to start to convert my 2wd edge to a 4wd and was wondering what is a good price for a used t-case and will one from a 4wd ranger be a direct bolt in to my 2wd ranger.

Since you have not description of your truck, I am going to assume its a 2005. I would suggest that if you want a 4wd, take your loss on the depreciation value and trade it in on a truck that is 4wd.

To convert your truck to 4wd would be a huge undertaking and cost, and by the time you are done, you will probably just wish you traded it in for a 4wd.

Not to mention that doing this would probably just about void any remaining warranty on your truck.

Also, its not just a matter of the adding a transfer case. You need the front drive shaft, a new computer, all the wiring to activate the transfer case.. its not as straight forward as it sounds. Especially on all the newer electronically controlled trucks of today.

I have a front axle assembly that would bolt into your truck if you have an edge like I think you do. Doesn't have the transfer case, but does have the knuckles, brakes, etc etc. you would need. I'll be in the Pensacola area in the next month or so.

How much do u want for all of that.

If i got all of that from u what else would i still need, t-case and the wireing.

if your gonna go through the trouble you might as well put a straight axle in it. do you have any mechanical experiance?........if you go through with it good luck and keep us posted, i think a stock 4x4 conversion from a 2wd would be a first for this site

i believe you need a whole new tranny, the output on a 2wd doesnt have the right flange to mount the t-case to.

It wont be that bad to do if i can buy all the parts at a good price and its all bolt in unlike the straight axle ware u have to be without a truck for a while and do all the fabrication.

that was one of the thing i was wondering about. Ill have to find out if it will bolt up or if i need a new tranny

you need a new tranny. unless you find a divorced t-case

You will only need a new output shaft for the transmission. your old transmission ought to work fine. You'll also need the transfer case and the wiring, unless you find a manual transfer case from an older ranger or b2. I honestly haven't thought too much about the price. let me ponder it a bit and i'll let ya know.

It would be substantially easier than going to a straight axle because it would all bolt up.

No his tranny won't work. You have to remove the tail-shaft assembly from the tranny, and that seals to the tranny itself, since there is a seal at the slip yoke. You can't just take that off, b/c then you would have to seal the t-case to the tranny.

You need to get a 4wd tranny.

You don't need the electronics for a t-case if you get a manual t-case.

so then my tranny wont work with any t-case then. I guess ill just forget about the 4wd drive for know. I think im going to look into just getting a winch this week or next.
