been readin around and just a real quick question....It takes Mercon ATF, will Dex/merc or Dex/merc III work? or do i have to go and actually get just mercon fluid? isnt Dexron just GMs name and Mercon fords? don't bother recommending Royal purple or any other synthetic fluid. i never bother with expensive stuff.

 

no its totally different fluid...you need mercon fluid otherwise youll fry your t case

 

Hmmm. well my book says the same for the 5 speed tranny. But i think i have Dex/Merc III in there....should i change that to? i've always heard that works for the 5 speed...

 

you need mercon for the tranny too...the only place i know of to get the fluid is directly from ford

i changed my tranny and tcase fluid for 15 dollars a month ago

 

got it changed today. My book and auto values book said the same thing. Just regular Mercon Fluid (Dex/merc). So i got that changed today. and will be changing the Tranny later. takes the same.

 

Its just ATF fluid. Your right, there is no difference.

Personally I used Royal Purple in mine. A little more expensive, but I have given it a rough going now and then lol
