Tensioner Replacement

My truck is squealing like a mother f'er and I have come to a conclusion that my tensioner needs to be replaced. I went through all the forums but there is nothing clear enough on just simply changing the tensioner. I would appreciate all the post as this is an obvious issue for all ranger owners. I have a 2002 Edge 3.0L so please help me.

Ya. Usually the idler or tensioner. My 4 banger's went out back in the winter. My friends did to on his 4.0 Ranger.

I'm basically looking for a quick how-to summary on how to change this part, I have order a factory tensioner from the dealership this morning will be in tomorrow. So anything from now till then and help me understand this process would be much appreciated.

Pretty simple. I did mine, but it's a 4.0L, but am very sure it's nearly exact replacement procedure on your 3.0L.

1. take your belt loose.
2. there's a bolt(takes a 13mm?) that goes through the tensioner and into the block, remove that bolt.
3. remove the tensioner.
4. install new tensioner. On mine there's a locating pin that locates into a hole in the block to correctly position thte tensioner, make sure you get it in the correct hole.
5. thread in bolt into block. Tighten bolt. I don't know ft/lb specs on it. Just tighten it til it's tight.
6. install belt.

your done.

Have you looked at a Gatorback belt? They are AWESOME and QUIET!!

Hey bud, that's exactly what I'm looking for! You answered all my issues! thanks and yes all tensioner's will have that pin as it is that alignment pin, thank again. And yes I have read all the great reviews of these gatorback belts and that will be to be an after thought as I'm changing the tensioner today, because I got the motomaster ford part and also I'm tried of my screamin' mimi every time I drive around. Your truck can look soo good you from a far your pimpin', but when you pull up and it's just rippin' this high pitched squeal all of a sudden you're not pimpin' and your truck is all of a sudden a piece of ****! So you know I just need to change ASAP! belt might be done this weekend. thanks for all your knowledge! till next time.
