Teransfer case motor replacemnt

Teransfer case motor replacemnt
I just receive a transfer case motor for my ranger, my question is should I or do need to disconnect my battery before repacing it?

Okay, I replace the shift motor and still don't any lights on the dash or switch. Both the fuzes are good. Where the hell is the control module located on this truck?
