things are bad...slipping to no go in my auto

had the truck a month now and has run pretty good once I got the fluid levels right and the driveshaft lubed. It still has a trans fluid leak and yesterday the od light started flashing and started slipping. Figured I would try fluid. Worked for a little while, but started slipping more and more and then stopped going all together. Seems like if I let it sit for awhile it will go some (like 100 yards in the parking lot) and then its no go again.

Sucks....

sounds like you need a tranny. www.car-part.com

I would like to try to do a rebuild (with a little help from my friends) if it comes to that. But I did a search from your link and would you believe the cheapest one in fl comes from a place right up the street from me. I was in that yard last week!

I am not absolutely sure its blown...but they have one that is being pulled today for $350 with 115000 miles on it. Should I assume the tranny needs replacing and jump on this used one or hold off to get a look inside or wait for a lower milage one?

that all depends on if ya need the truck or not, I know most times its faster and easier to just swap out a tranny for a new one instead of ording parts and waiting while your truck is down.

what would you expect a rebuild of the transmission to cost with doing the work myself? I actually have 2 other cars. Just put my other daily driver back on the road today with tag and insurance so I have time to deal with the truck....but then again I have one day off a week......

You did use mercon V fluid didn't you? The way I understand it it is mandatory or trans will burn up. My 99 had the od light flashing but when I cleaned the speed sensor it stopped.

yeah, fluid is merc v and full.

I GOT CODES PULLED!

My cousin brought by one of the local ford dealers $1500 code readers. Got my trans, engine and abs codes pulled. Does not sound nearly as bad as a chunked transmission.

Tell me what you think about these and cost of parts.
P1761 Shift Sole perf
P0741 Torque Cover Clutch sys perf stuck
p1000 (more testing)

engine code
P1400 DPFE Sens volt low

abs codes
C1230 wheel Speed sensor Rear input failure (top of the driveshaft sensor I think)
C1102 Accel Switch Circuit failure.

you know...its good to have access to real tools! Also tells me that my data port is working right and that the cheap code reader I got is bad (ie not a bad port)
